Gay Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight has recorded a public service announcement in a bid to help other closeted homosexuals come out. The actor claims he was "forced out" after former cast mate Isaiah Washington used a derogatory gay slur in an on-set fight - and he has since been championed by gay rights groups for taking a stand. And now, Knight has teamed up with The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to shoot a powerful public service announcement in recognition of National Coming Out Day. In the 20-second ad, Knight tells viewers how important it is to accept their gay friends and family members. The PSA marks the one-year anniversary of the actor's gay announcement in People magazine, when he made history by becoming the first actor to publicly come out while appearing on one of the nation's top-rated shows. The spot is part of GLAAD's new Be An Ally & A Friend PSA campaign featuring 22 entertainers from television, film and sports. The spots encourage people to be allies to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and to help combat homophobia.
