Celebrity News:

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Less than two weeks after completing her second trip to rehab, actress Lindsay Lohan has been arrested once again, for allegedly driving drunk and possessing cocaine.
Lohan is on a long list of celebrities who go through rehab, only to find themselves back there shortly after.

We spoke with some prevention councilors who say it only reinforces how important rehab can be.

They are familiar faces who shine in the spotlight, and when they screw up, we seem to notice them a little more.

The Onondaga County Prevention Network’s Brad Finn says, "The paparazzi saw them go into rehab, they're waiting for them to come out of rehab."

Such is the case with Lindsay Lohan, who just completed her second tour of rehab. Tuesday morning, she was arrested for driving under the influence, as well as possessing some cocaine.

Beth Hurny, with the Prevention Network, says, ‘"When somebody is unsuccessful their first time and they relapse, I’ve always looked at it as one or more of the pieces of their puzzle aren't connected."

Hurny says it takes a while for some folks to realize they have a problem; relapsing is one of those signs.

In Onondaga County, thousands of people go through rehab, hundreds even relapse. Less than 50% can actually consider themselves fully recovered. It’s not uncommon for this to happen to someone.

That’s why councilors say celebrity screw ups don't give rehab a bad name. Instead, they reinforce how tough addictions can be.

Finn says, "It is now up to them to take on the illness and say ‘I’ve got to change me."

But change isn't always easy. According to a study from the state Department of Health, 15.3% of Americans are considered binge drinkers. That number jumps a little in New York and soars even higher in our area; we're at 19%.

Couple that in with drug use, and Brad Finn says it's important for folks to fight off their addictions with the help of trained professionals.
